Here‘s to Your Health

Series of paper cutting, 2019

The pain is incalculable

The heart is only seven-tenths the size

The weight of life is immeasurable

I had pneumonia in high school and was briefly quarantined. Fortunately, I was released from the hospital. But after that, the body's immunity dropped dramatically, that minor illnesses and pains often accompany.

When the pain is present, we feel the presence of each organ.

During that time, I continued to create in the form of paper art. I needed to cut and sculpt paper with a knife. It was a process of choosing between removing part of paper and the leaving part.

I decided to dissect the paper in this way.

More coincidentally, during this process, I found that medical instruments such as scalpels and surgical scissors can be used instead of cutters to carve, which are sharper and more usable. This discovery added strength and impulse to my desire to do "dissection" on paper.

The Here’s to Your Health series is derived from this "anatomical plan". I used scalpel and extremely pseudoscientific attitude to hollow out these organs, and also "cured" myself of pain in such a process of hard work.
