Breathing of Future Plants
Paper art installation, 2021
Strange wild paper plants were placed on the simulated metal conveyor belt, that the artist “pretended " to produce and transport future humane plants.
Invited by the famous brand Perrier, Fenwan decided to use paper to create a special photosynthesis that will take place in future, between us and these plants. Watered with bubbly water, they did not follow the laws of nature but still have to obey the order of the conveyor belt. Several mirror doors on the conveyor belt, as a visual beginning and end of the production, also offer another imaginary field of the artwork, keeping a mystery to the origin and whereabouts of the plants.
The essence of life for these plants is paper, a kind of natural crop that records human temperatures. The work uses a large amount of mirror silver and fluorescent pink, grafting the iconic totem plant "organs" of Fenwan on the metal branches, and allowing the reflection of the paper to bring the audience into the conversation like photosynthesis.
Are they being processed, displayed or nurtured? These plants of future can even be dismantled and assembled, and physically propagated. Imagination, with practice, is growing wildly.
