津天于天津 Jintian In Tianjin

我们可能忽略了自己:

藏在对称的身体里,

住在对称的房子里,

过着日复日对称的日子,

期待着对称的情感关系,

挥手也对称着初见与道别。

We may be ignoring that ourselves are

Hidden in a symmetrical body,

Living in a symmetrical house,

Living a symmetrical daily life

Expecting for symmetrical relationships.

We also wave hands

to symmetry our first meeting and farewell.


对称是一个动词,也是艺术家提供的全新观看角度。

Symmetry could be a verb, as a brand new angle of view provided by artist.


10月,粉丸带着自己的课题「对称」平移到两千公里以外的天津,作为驻地艺术家进行了为期2个月的考察和创作计划,并将当地风土文化转化为养分,呈现在最终作品《津天于天津》之中。

目前作品正在天津K11一楼南中庭展出,展期将延续到明年。

In October 2021, Chen Fenwan moved her research topic "Symmetry" 2,000 kilometers away to Tianjin. As a resident artist, she carried out a 2-month investigation and creation plan, and transformed the local culture into nutrients, which was presented in her final work Jintian In Tianjin. The word Jintian means Today in Chinese, which is symmetrical with Tianjin in pronunciation.

At present, the artwork is exhibited in the south Atrium of the first floor of K11 Select in Tianjin, and the exhibition will continue until next year.

于是“对称”作为关键词,如同创作的基因一般贯穿在驻地过程中,所见所闻被精准而统一地串联在一起。《津天于天津》中包含的生物图案、风筝结构、序列感肌理、轴对称的运动方式,甚至连名字都是对称的。

作品分为上中下三层:高空的燕子、与我们并行的蝴蝶、还有水中的游鱼。风筝上覆盖着如针脚般有序列感的对称纹样,也镂空着我日常创作中的对称图腾。风筝的对称造型模仿飞行生物,是关于自然的对称。而风筝与人的关系,是一场关于控制的对称游戏。在这个人为制造的对称空间里,对称之美被高密度地并置,以至于我们都无法忽略。

Therefore, "symmetry", as a key word, runs through the resident project just like the gene of creation, and everything Fenwan seen and heard is connected together accurately and uniformly. Jintian in Tianjin combines biological patterns wiht kite structures, sequential textures and axisymmetric movement, and even its name is symmetrical.

The works are divided into three layers: swallows in the sky, butterflies in parallel with us, and fish in the water. The kite is covered with symmetrical patterns with a sense of sequence like stitches, which also hollow out the symmetry totem in her daily creation.

The shape of the kite mimics flying creatures, which is about the symmetry of nature.And the relationship between kites and people, is a symmetrical game about control. The pattern, structure and movement of kites are all symmetrical. The beauty of symmetry is juxtaposed in density, that we can't even ignore.

作品最终的样貌,很大程度源于粉丸在考察过程中获得的有趣故事与灵感。驻地期间,粉丸在本地考察了三个她认为带有对称属性的非遗项目:

The final appearance of the work is largely derived from the interesting stories and inspirations obtained by Fenwan in the process of investigation. During her stay, she inspected three local intangible heritage projects that she believed had symmetrical properties:

首先是杨柳青年画博物馆的各个工作室,从中她发现了“门子”这个能体现对称和作坊属性的结构。将半圆的“门子”结构嫁接到作品中,片状的图腾同样可以被观众手动转动,成为粉丸一系列对称主题作品中,一次突破性的成长。

The first is the studios of the Yangliuqing New Year Painting Museum, from which she discovered the "Menzi", a structure that reflects symmetry and workshop attributes. The semi-circle "Menze" structure is grafted into the work, and the flaked totem can also be manually rotated by the audience, making it a breakthrough growth in her series of symmetrical themed works.

随后是风筝魏传承人魏国秋老师。在对称的风筝图形里,原来还藏着重要的步骤,即腾飞前关于对称性的结构调试。

风筝成为了《津天于天津》作品中的结构基调,轻盈而亮丽,与剪纸的镂空形式其实十分相衬。

Then came teacher Wei Guoqiu, the inheritor of Kite Wei. In the symmetry of the kite graphics, the original hidden important steps, that is, before takeoff on the symmetry of the structural adjustment.

The kite becomes the basic structural tone of Jintian In Tianjin, which is light and bright, matching the hollowed out form of paper cutting.

最后是老美华布鞋,在纳鞋底的手艺里,针脚的序列感和对称性出其不意地触动了粉丸。她将这些纹理类似地以自己更为惯用、高饱和度的方式,转化在了纸张之上。

三组看似无关的考察,以对称的名义被并置,这是粉丸在这次驻留项目里吸收并消化出来的“高浓度对称研究”。

于是,当粉丸把这些层叠的研究与思索,逐一拼贴在作品之上,便使之拥有了相对繁复而又具有融合感的样貌。而制作工序也是如此,纸张首先被充满序列感的彩色对称纹理填满。

Three seemingly unrelated studies were juxtaposed in the name of symmetry, a "high-concentration symmetry study" absorbed and digested by the artist during the residency.

Therefore, when she collages these overlapping studies and thoughts on the work one by one, it gives it a relatively complicated and integrated appearance. In the same way, the paper is first filled with a sequence of colored symmetrical textures.

再是雕刻、粘贴、安装、修复。与粉丸以往的每一间空间作品一样,纸张历经团队分隔在异地的不同人员和工艺的对称附着,却始终保持自身的属性与质感。只是在新的作品中,焕发出独属于北方驻留的在地性张力。

12月11日,作品启幕时,被问及驻留结束前的感受,粉丸依然以一句对称的话语回答:“再见天津,天津再见。”

Then carve, paste, install and repair. Like Fenwan’s previous works, the paper has always maintained its own attributes and texture after being symmetrically attached by different people and techniques separated in different places by the studio team. In this new work, however, the tension of local nature that belongs to the North China is revealed.

On December 11, when she was asked how she felt at the end of her stay, She answered with a symmetrical sentence: "Goodbye Tianjin, Tianjin goodbye."
