In this work, I attempt to transform "scissors" themselves into the subject of the pattern: the blades take the form of paper-cuts, and upon each edge, paper-cut forms emerge. They interlock ring by ring, ultimately arranged into a tuanhua (a traditional Chinese circular floral paper-cut design).

The tuanhua is an image of cosmos and order, while the action of scissors is precisely the cycle of "taking and discarding" — each time the hand rises and the blade falls, new boundaries and new forms are generated.

Scissors and hand are symbiotic symbols of the blade.

Scissor-shaped paper-cut figures are woven together by the order of the mandala. Scissors were originally tools for making forms; when they become paper-cut figures, it is as though the craft itself has been folded into the work, completing an act of self-expression.
