"Scents are intangible, yet my art consistently seeks to capture and distill resonance from the formless," reflects Fenwan. This exploration of the intersection between art and fragrance took tangible form in 2023 through Fenwan's collaborative project with luxury brand Coach and the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art.

粉丸以「剪纸」为概念,分层绘制叠加对称的画面,形成最终主视觉,当中选取了COACH最为经典的茶玫瑰元素,并通过个人语言和色彩对花朵进行转译。
Fenwan employs the concept of "paper-cutting," layering and drawing symmetrical images to create the final key visual. She incorporates COACH's iconic tea rose element, translating the flowers using her personal artistic language and colors.
分层手稿直观显示了主视觉的图形结构关系。层数越往上,线条越纤细,在叠加后呈现不同的颜色与细节,而它们则始终保持相互独立。
这是粉丸创作中典型的剪纸语言之一,即当我们希望使用实际的纸张去裁剪出相应图形,我们并不会一次性获得所有的颜色和细节,而是需要通过重复裁剪,分层和叠加。这样的方法在艺术家使用ipad制图的“电子剪纸”过程中,以概念的形式延续着。
The layered manuscript provides a clear visual representation of the key graphic's structural composition. As the layers progress upwards, the lines become more delicate, revealing varied colors and intricate details upon overlay while maintaining their individual integrity.
This approach exemplifies one of Fenwan's signature paper-cutting techniques. In traditional paper-cutting, one doesn't achieve all colors and details in a single cut; instead, it requires repeated cutting, layering, and superimposition. Fenwan conceptually translates this method into her digital workflow, employing what she calls "electronic paper-cutting" when creating art on an iPad.

In her work, Fen Wan seeks to push the boundaries of symmetry, posing thought-provoking questions: Can a scent be symmetrical? Can thoughts have symmetry?

💓: Scents are intangible, yet my art consistently seeks to capture and distill resonance from the formless. The relationship between perfume and my art is akin to that of paint and the artist's hand wielding the brush.

💓: Symmetry forms the foundational aesthetic in paper-cutting, with artists finding cutting paths through repetition and the interplay of positive and negative spaces. In this project, I aimed to expand the concept of symmetry: Can a scent be symmetrical? Can thoughts have symmetry? The overall composition of this work is built on symmetry, using visual balance to represent intangible ideas. The intricate cut-outs allow for the transparent release of the fragrance, creating a multisensory experience.
