A Symmetrical Nature: Green Heart Garden

Public Art Installation, 2026

A Symmetrical Nature: Four Seasons, Cut from Paper

Some works are not completed all at once.
They grow slowly over many years.
A Symmetrical Nature is one of them.

The series began in 2019 with a 300-square-meter installation at Taikoo Li Chengdu. Over time, it gradually evolved into several color variations—pink, green, red, blue, and multicolored.

They were never originally conceived as representations of the four seasons. Yet as each version appeared in different places and at different times, I began to see them as a cycle of spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

In papercutting, symmetry is a fundamental visual language.
A sheet of paper is folded, cut, and then unfolded, revealing its image in a single moment. It is a language rooted both in the experience of the hand and in an ancient way of seeing.
In this series, symmetry is more than a formal device. It extends to the relationships between people.
How do we see ourselves reflected in one another?
How do we find connection through repetition and difference?

By the time the fifth iteration of the series came into being, I felt that I had found more of my own answers.

This year, in my latest solo exhibition Cutting Exercises at A4X Art Center (Chongqing), A Symmetrical Nature also took on a new form: A Symmetrical Nature: Green Heart Garden. The work has expanded from an indoor installation into an outdoor sculpture, entering a more open environment and forming new relationships with its surroundings.

If you visit A4X Art Center (Chongqing), don't stop at the halls.
Step outside and continue exploring.
Three public artworks are waiting to be discovered. 😛
